Mary's Case
Mary is a 40 year old female who presented to the hospital with severe pain in her abdomen and back, altered LOC, and a tingling sensation in her extremities. You are the incoming ER nurse. You receive the following report from the admitting nurse. Mary’s health history was obtained from Mary’s husband and includes: hypertension, Marfan’s syndrome, and she underwent a CABG surgery 3 years ago. Her last vital signs taken were as follows: HR 122 bpm, BP 150/78 mm Hg, temperature of 37.7 C, RR 22, and O2 saturation of 97 on room air. During the head to toe assessment, the nurse also noted 10/10 pain, asymmetrical pulses in the extremities, and the patient was quite anxious throughout the examination. Mary was given pain and anxiety medications. After seeing the doctor, Mary is diagnosed with a Type B aortic dissection.
