Chronic hypertension is the most predominant risk factor for the development of an aortic dissection (Golledge & Eagle, 2008). Other important risk factors include: age, biological sex, cardiovascular history, and genetic disorders such as Marfan's syndrome, and type 4 Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (Nienaber & Clough, 2015).
